Happy Mother's Day!

So I have been true to my word in terms of limited postings. We have had a ton of things going on lately. It's warming up here in Durham and we've been spending our weekends working in the yard and boating on the Eno. Both of us have found work getting out of control. Poca insists we take frequent walks around the neighborhood. We need to vacuum often to fight the Poca hair precipitation. In general, it's just been crazy busy.

I had to fly up to NYC for work and I was happy that Tom and Holly could join me. Holly wasn't a huge fan of the Empire State Building. She wasn't a huge fan of having to stay close, hold hands and not "fly like a bird" around the city (or through airport security). She WAS a huge fan of the subway. Of Central Park. And of our friend Shannon. We were all totally exhausted when we came home. Particularly me, which is understandable given that - for those who aren't aware - I'm 18 weeks pregnant.

It's pretty different this time around. Gone are the long naps after work while Tom cooks dinner. Gone too are the limits on avoiding picking up - for example- a 33lbs toddler. But no one gave me snuggles like Holly does to make me feel better when I was laying on the couch the last time around ("want another snuggle, mama? and another? and another?") and no one would explain to people at dinner that "mama can't drink wine cause she has a little tiny baby growing in her tummy and babies don't drink wine!" the last time around either. Holly is overjoyed (so far) to be a big sister. We have no illusions that this joy will last through the first year of her siblings life. But for now...it's super sweet. And the sweetness makes up for all the loss of sleep and back pain. Happy Mother's Day!
