Christmas 2011

From top to bottom: Holly gives her new doll (Molly) her pacifier while eating the lollipop Santa brought her. Frank and Cubbie sleeping in the sun. Holly gives her best smile on the Santa train - she was a bit nervous about meeting Santa. Visiting one of her more distant cousins at the NC Zoo. Tom and Holly decorate our little tree. Laughter and tears

I have received a lot of questions about this blog lately. I have to say that when I started this blog, I didn't think I would still be blogging when she was over 2. Otherwise, I wouldn't have called it "Baby Go Lightly". Therefore, I hope everyone will not be too sad if I say that I do not intend to blog very often from now on. You can still get your Holly fix by visiting us on Facebook, on Skype or reality. I'll post a few photos of our Christmas in the next post.

We had a wonderful Christmas Eve filled with laughter and joy. Family and friends joined us in person, over the phone, on Skype or through their letters and cards during the last few weeks. Santa found our house and managed to deliver some lovely toys to Holly. However, as you can guess from the title of this post, we had some sadness.

More than thirteen years ago, we picked up a tiny little black kitty who we named Frank. He was so small and full of energy that my mother joked we should have named him "Tigger". He moved with us from Maryland to the big city. He stayed in South Carolina being spoiled by his "grandmother" while we were in Thailand. Then he joined us here in North Carolina where he lived until today. He grew bigger and bigger leading our mailman to ask us once, "Is that a cat or a panther!??!" He had so much personality that many of our friends asked about him when they couldn't remember Cubbie's name. Frank has grown progressively sicker over the last 3 years. We took him to many vets who ran many tests without a diagnosis. One month ago, the vet diagnosed him with kidney failure as a result of the illness we could never identify. We knew our days with him were numbered. This weekend we realized that he did not have many left and today he took a turn for the worse. He died peacefully surround by love and snuggled by Tom. We will all miss him, particularly Holly. Although their early relationship was rocky, Frank and Holly have become close friends. She has shared kisses, snuggles and cheese with her black kitty. Over the past few months she has kissed him many times to make his "ouchies all better". I am hopeful that she and Cubbie can come together while they both are missing their friend.

So I can't say that our Christmas day was completely full of cheers and happiness. But I can say that we are happy to be together. That we feel lucky for those who are with us. We also feel luck for those who were with us, even though they are gone forever. Merry Christmas everyone!
