Happy Dada's Day!

What a lovely weekend! Perhaps it was just our joy at being at home again. Perhaps it was the lovely (if slightly warm) weather. Perhaps it was that we didn't have lots of work, projects or deadlines hanging over our heads. Whatever it was, it was a lovely weekend. Friday night was a local festival where Holly got her first (temporary) tattoo. Yesterday, we went to the Farmer's Market and played in the backyard. Then we topped it all off by a nice Father's Day today. How did we spend the day?
  • We woke up at 7:30am and Holly gave Tom her gift --- a new set of Lego Duplo blocks so they can build even MORE "duckies" out of blocks together.
  • Then Tom made pancakes (hey- I offered - but I make terrible pancakes so he declined). We ate and then headed outside.
  • Tom and Holly played in the sandbox while I cleaned up the kitchen.
  • Then Tom mowed the lawn/whacked weeds while Holly and I colored.
  • Then Tom and Holly played the piano while I pulled weeds. Sense a theme? We've been away for a while and we have a huge yard.
  • Then after cleaning up, we went out for lunch at one of Tom's favorite places--- Chipotle.
  • Holly went down for her nap then Tom headed out for kayaking fun with some friends.
  • When she woke up, we hit the backyard pool until the mosquitoes chased us back inside.
  • Tom came back muddy and happy. We BBQ'ed with our friend Sam (grilled corn and fresh watermelon were the highlights) until the sun set.
Now it's bedtime. Or will be sometime soon if Holly ever consents to go to sleep again. I can imagine if I were her that sleeping every day would be very hard. Every day a new adventure. Every day new experiences. Night-night, baby...

Photos- Fun in June

Birthdays, Annual Meetings, Sand, Sea and Sleep

So... we've been busy! Since our last blog, we:
  • went to DC and celebrated Holly's Grannie Annie's Birthday (with nearly the whole family)
  • went to my Annual Meeting
  • ate dinner with our friends and their sweet boy, Nico
  • Tom and Holly went home while I stayed at my Annual Meeting spending my first night alone in more than 19 months
  • drove to the ocean to spend the weekend with Aunt Miki (and Uncle Rob, Mike, Emily, Andrew, Reid, Keighly and Teagan)
  • played in the sand
  • played in the water
  • played in the backyard... and so much more
Throughout it all, I am pleased to report that Holly has continued to sleep well, eat well and generally be our happy little toddler. This weekend will be our first one at home in about a month. Holly learns so much every day! Tonight she was in her room "reading" Curious George goes to the Aquarium while Tom ate dinner and I unloaded the dishwasher. I watched her quietly from around the corner as she turned each page, pointed and "read" what was happening in the book. I know, I know... typical mom gushing over her child. But isn't she just so cute?!?!?
